PSA: Stop spreading leaks. You are hurting people.
I didn’t really want to make this post, but tumblr is one of the bigger places for Cookie Run, and this is getting extremely harmful.
Ever wondered why big name leakers like Squire, Mob, etc all stopped leaking things? That’s right, there was a message in the files before Roll Cake’s release putting a message in plain Korean, asking one thing. “Please stop.”
And yet you people are still going. The devs have made this clear. You are hurting their business. Their sales do get messed up by this, because people know to just hoard their crystals and wait and wait until they get what they want.
There are several things that can come of this. First, employees can get fired. Obviously. You are putting real people’s jobs in peril because you want to know information sooner. That’s great.
Second, you can potentially get a C&D order if you are spreading the leaks around and are popular enough. This isn’t that common with mobile games and may not be pursued, but it’s something that could happen.
Third, if you are like Squire and making money off the leaks, you could get sued. This is obviously a drastic measure and unlikely to affect most of you, but it is something that can happen.
There are also plenty of people that don’t want to see these leaks, but get them shoved in their faces because people can’t contain themselves and dump them in tags. Squire was notoriously disliked in the KR fanbase for repeatedly posting spoilers tagged with every form of the CR tags on twitter (btw not trying to demonize him, since he probably didn’t know it was making people mad, but all the same the point needs to be made), making it impossible to not see leaks at least once before blocking him.
That aside, you also have to account for morals. You were politely asked to stop. Rebelling against the company you supposedly support that just wants you to quit spreading around content early? Is that right?
Anyway, I’ve said my piece. Call me a stick-in-the-mud, an asshole, I don’t really care. I just want people to understand that your actions can have consequences. Sorry for this post.
You remember that post about the homestuck t-shirt design contest collaborating with hot topic? And how Hot Topic are the biggest art thieves? This is recent. As you can see above, I stumbled upon Hot Topic’s website and they are selling a very popular fan art put on a t-shirt, and did not ask permission from the original artist (rismo).
This shows Hot Topic still continues their art thievery. Hot Topic are still taking art from artists without their permission. This is disrespectful and appalling.
EXCEPT YOU DID GIVE THEM YOUR PERMISSION.

3. License To Use Artist Materials. As and when Artist Materials are uploaded to the DeviantArt Site(s), Artist grants to DeviantArt a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to do the following things during the Term:
a) to prepare and encode Artist Materials or any part of them for digital or analog transmission, manipulation and exhibition in any format and by any means now known or not yet known or invented; (DA can post them on their website and edit them in any way they see fit)

For all you know, your art could be promoting the KKK.)
c) to modify, adapt, change or otherwise alter the Artist Materials (e.g., change the size) and use the Artist Materials as described in Section 3(b); and
d) the right to sublicense to any other person or company any of the licensed rights in the Artist Materials, or any part of them, subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement. (They can edit, change, or otherwise modify your artwork in any way they want, as well as sublicensing it to third parties, such as Hot Topic.)
e) Artist acknowledges that Artist will not have any right, title, or interest in any other materials with which Artist Materials may be combined or into which all or any portion of Artist Materials may be incorporated. (By posting on FA, you forfeit your right to dispute any third party profits or copyright infringements upon your art.)
f) During the Term, DeviantArt’s licenses under this Agreement include the right to use any part of the Artist Materials in the promotion, advertising or marketing of the DeviantART Sites. (DeviantArt can use your art to advertise anything they want.)
g) As used in this Agreement, the term “Artist Materials” means any content uploaded to the DeviantArt Site(s) which may include without limitation Artist’s name(s) (including professional names), trademarks, trade names, likenesses, photographs, biographical materials, audio-visual materials, artwork, liner notes, and other graphical, textual, video, film or audio materials and any and all “skins,” computer-generated images or other artwork or images that Artist submits to DeviantArt in any medium or format whatsoever. (ANYTHING you submit to DeviantArt belongs to DeviantArt now. Including your drawings, your photos, videos, your stock materials, your music/audio, your written stories, and your artist name.)

Yep. Deleted over 400 drawings and photos from DA over an year ago. I used the site for over 8 years not knowing these terms of service since they don’t actually show them to you when you make an account. Sure you can find them if you do some digging but they don’t shove it to your face. Also it doesn’t matter if your art has a watermark or whatever. Like it says above they have the right to edit and modify your pics so they can just remove your useless watermarks and signatures and then use your art freely and you can’t complain because you have agreed to all of this. There is no reason whatsoever to use Deviantart (maybe if you are a stockartist that gives their shit for free lol). Leave this piece of shit site before they use you like the arrogant asshats they are.
In the animation industry, you don’t get to PICK AND CHOOSE what projects you work on
Stop being assholes to the artists who worked on the emoji movie. It probably wasn’t their first choice either okay? But if you are picky in this industry you don’t get hired. You show up and do your job you don’t sign up for what movies you want to work on
I think this important to note.
You’ll also frequently see animators for projects like this say THEY HATED it, but it was either do the shitty cash-grab movie or go hungry.
I think this is why critics of animated movies should lay off on the animators when they say “what animator would work on this piece of garbage”
Hey guys, a quick note. Tumblr just added a ‘feature’ that shows if you’re online or not. The only place I see it is in the messenger, though it might be elsewhere. It’s showing a friend as online even though they just have a tumblr tab open that they haven’t looked at in hours. It also shows how long ago they were active. I don’t know how it interacts with the app.
I have a few problems with this:
I personally don’t like the feeling of being stalked
People could actually stalk you
Person A could get mad at Person B because it said Person B was online but they weren’t (and thus didn’t respond) – or just wasn’t up to talking
Person X could message Person Y and get anxious when person Y doesn’t respond, since it says they’re online
I found the place to turn it off in account settings. There’s a section called “Availability” where you can toggle off the functionality.
Kids. Teenagers. As someone staring 40 in the face lemme tell you a thing.
You are going to be horrified and embarrassed at some point by the shit you are doing now.
And you are going to wish with all your might you’d done more of it.
You’re gonna wish you had more selfies, more photos, more videos being dumb with your friends. You’re going to wish you’d had your hair even higher or your shoes even sparklier.
Go. Document the shit out of your ridiculous life. Fuck trends but if you wanna be trendy, go all in. Fuck in-groups and subcultures but if one sings to you, do it all. Be exactly as cool or punk rock or goth or fandom or country or hardcore or hip hop or whatever, and don’t let anyone tell you differently.
Just don’t hurt people. That’s the only thing you’ll ever genuinely live to regret.
Don’t make fun of right-wing children. Don’t bully right-wing children. Don’t scream at, lecture, or swear at right-wing children. I say this because I was that child. I was the child forced by my parents to stand outside of clinics holding signs that say “Abortion Kills Children.” I was the child who went to church every Sunday and could parrot every bull shit argument opposing gay marriage. I sounded smart. I sounded like I formed those opinions on my own. The reality was I was being psychologically abused. I was brainwashed and indoctrinated. I had no sense of self until I was much older. I had been wiped clean and filled with garbage. I have PTSD in part because of my childhood. Today, I am telling you, that those children NEED you! They need you to show love and patience and compassion. They need you to guide them out. Those children holding those signs are children begging to be seen. See them.
To add – this is a tactic right-wingers use to push their kids further right! The kids see well-meaning lefties being assholes and think “wow, I guess my parents were right, lefties ARE bad people who don’t think of the well being of the children and attack the underdog” etc., for real, these are kids and have in all likelihood experienced some degree or other of cult conditioning/abuse.
You sure have seenthis post. It has spread like wildfire over the past few days so I doubt there is any artist out there who hasn’t seen it. But even if you didn’t, you should read on because I’m about to tell you a handy little thing that can help you to protect your art from such assholes as the anon who submitted this bullcrap, as well as art thieves in general.
The magic word is Metadata.
Metadata is like an invisible signature that is embeded into a file. It can contain all kinds of information, like Title, date, keywords for online seach engines, and copyright information. And the best thing is, since this information is “hidden” in the code of your picture, it’s hard to remove it.
There is a nice basic tutorial on how to add Metadata, or “additional file information” to your images in photoshop. It’s really, really easy so check it out!
I’m not sure if you can do the same with any other art program. If you know how to do this in other programs / can confirm that it works the same way there, please tell me so I can add the information to this post.
Adding the Metadata will not stop idiots from taking and reposting your art. It also won’t make them stop editing out your signature. It WILL however, help you prove that you are the original artist whenever you have to. Always remember my friends. You, the artist, are protected by law. No one has the right to take your intellectual property and hard work and repost, use or edit it without your permission. Ever.
I usually don’t reblog these sort of things, but to my fellow artists out there. Your art is your art! I hope this helps anyone who comes across it.
